Yellow cave

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Olaf Greve
Title: Yellow cave
Gear used: Olympus E-500 + OM->E adapter + Zuiko 50mm F3.5 Macro lens
Aperture used: f8 or f16
Shutter speed used: 1/160th
Exposure compensation: -2 full stops
Media used: Sandisk Ultra II card, set at ISO 100
Technical information: I tried this with the T28 Twin Macro Flash on manual mode, but I kept getting extremely overexposed pictures, so I decided to just use the internal flash, which worked out nicely enough for my likings. I bracketed quite a bit and took this shot handheld. A -2 exposure compensation gave me the results I liked best.
Subject information: I tried getting special food pictures during our Paris trip, as well as on the trip I was allowed to take on a Navy ship. Neither of these two occassions gave me good opportunities for interesting food pictures. Then, virtually ALL of my spare time got consumed, and in the end I decided to make use of the opportunity to have my first go at using an OM lens on my new E-500 body. I chose the 50/3.5 macro and decided to have a look around the fridge for interesting subjects. I came (among other things) across a lemon cut in two halves; one of them unsqueezed and the other half semi-squeezed. I tried a variety of compositions and underexposure settings, and thought this picture (of the semi-squeezed half) worked best.
