Submitter's Name: Gregg Iverson
Title: Swallowtail
Gear Used: OM-4T + Tamron 90mm/2.5 macro
Diaphragm: F4.0
Shutter Speed: Automatic
Film Used: Kodacolor Gold 200 ASA
Subject information: This is one of the few times I didn't have to chase all over to get the butterfly's photo. After snapping one further away and scaring it off, I moved in closer and waited about 15 seconds until the butterfly settled and then moved into a desirable position.

Comment left by: Giles (no e-mail specified) Gorgeous colours, wonderfuly sharp and nice bokeh.

Handheld?

I keep wanting to see the right wingtip.

Comment left by: Anonymous Visitor handheld to keep up with the Swallowtail

Comment left by: Jay Maynard (jmaynard@conmicro.cx) I didn't know the Tamron would do this well (shows how much I've shot mine, eh?). The angle is just a little wrong for me, though, since I find the out-of-focus left wingtip distracting. Not sure how I'd approach this one, since the background flowers do lend quite a bit to the composition.

Comment left by: Paul Schings (ZuikoholicRI@aol.com) I agree with Jay that the blurred left wingtip is a little distracting (although pleasantly soft). There probably isn't much that could be done about that, though. Stopping down more would probably have made the upper background (green leaves, pressumably?) even more of a distraction. I love how it is so soft as it is. Reminds me of some flower stuff I've done with the 100/2 Zuiko (high praise indeed for the Tamron!)

Comment left by: Lex (lexjenkins@hotmail.com) There's something about the dynamics of this shot that allows me to forget about the right wing being partially cut off. In fact, that may be the strength of the image. Maybe it's the juxtaposition of the soft butterfly against the thistles, which are themselves juxtaposed against a nicely softened background. My only suggestion would be to crop down the top a bit.

Comment left by: Hank Hogan (hogant@mindspring.com) Very intriguing photo. Nicely cropped, both antennae are in focus ! The way the wing projects up out of the plane
of focus gives a kind of "motion blur" yet the individual
hairs at the base of the wing contradict motion.
Good composition, great colors, nice bokeh. Just SUPER !

Comment left by: Toby Cline (tobygcline@yahoo.com) I know this sounds stupid and uneducated, but what is Bokeh? Thanks, tobygcline@yahoo.com for answers!
