Comment left by: Gregg Iverson (giverson@webkorner.com) What a nice shot. That is a Day Lily of some sort, i believe.

Comment left by: Andrew Fildes (afildes@netlink.com.au) Most flower shotsare tedious but this pops out beautifully. Perfect framing. Flash? Well done.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Nice! I love how the flower pops out from the dark background.

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) yea, how'd you get the flower to pop out so well? can't figure out why nothing else is as bright

Comment left by: Simon E. (ruralwales@hotmail.com) The scanner didn't quite pull all of the background information, though the result isn't far off. It was dark green foliage and earth behind, so it was already dark. No flash used.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) well, it sure is great shot! (almost like spot flashed)

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (alasdair.mackintosh@eu.citrix.com) I love the water droplets on the petals, and the subdies background contrasting with the vivid foreground colours.

Comment left by: Giles (no e-mail specified) A lovely example of a pleasing background setting off the main subject. A good example also of the photographers eye and skill being more important than the tools used, not that there is anything wrong with those tools though.

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (vanda@dtn.ntl.com) I begin to think that there ought to be some law against getting such good results with such basic equipment.

How can we justify our expensive single-digit OM bodies and our multi-coated large-aperture Zuiko lenses when Simon is getting pictures like this with a simple compact camera?

My wife (qua accountant) is making comments over my shoulder as I type this, but I shall try to ignore her...

P.S. "Subdied" in my previous comment should read "subdued".

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) The light is just right Simon. I wonder if I will ever be able to organise a dark background like this, with colour and lighting to match.
