Backyard Bokeh

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Keith Berry
Title: Backyard Bokeh
Gear used: OM-2n, 300mm f5.6 Ohnar mirror lens
Diaphragm: f5.6 - no choice!
Shutter speed: 1/500 or thereabouts
Film used: Ilford Delta 400 ASA
Technical information: The absence of out of focus point light sources in the background means that no 'doughnuts' have been created, but instead single blades of grass have been thickened and made to look translucent.
Subject information: A plant (or weed) in the back garden, which is so small that my longest lens was needed to get any bokeh at all.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) Another mirror lens and no doughnuts (I must be weird - I quite like dougnuts). I'm not sure I like what's happened to the texture in the brickwork though.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) I'd recognize that mirror bokeh anywhere! My Tokina 500/8 has a similar bokeh.

Unfortunately, I think that in this case it draws my eye to the background instead of leaving my focus on the subject. That said, this is still a nice shot, and I'd consider hanging it on my wall.

Comment left by: Gregg Iverson (giverson@webkorner.com) I feel like I'm looking through 3D glasses at this one. The apparent depth is amazing!
