Weeds Along the Platte

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Scott Nelson
Title: Weeds Along the Platte
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 300/4.5 + Circipoli + Extension
Diaphragm: f4.5
Shutter speed: 1/8 sec
Film used: AGFA HDC plus ISO 100
Technical information: I shot this with the 300/4.5 and 200/4 at various F stops.
Subject information: Some weeds I saw while cycling along the Platte river. I always liked the way they looked and thought they would do well for the Bokeh TOPE. Waited 'till the sun was setting and made several exposures. The background includes some of the river and vegetation on the opposite riverbank.

Comment left by: Hans van Veluwen (hcvanveluwen@chello.nl) Beautiful, these pastel colors in the background - makes it almost look like a studio shot. Amazing also there was so little wind the stems didn't move in 1/8 sec. Would have been impossible to do this shot here in the Netherlands - always wind. Interesting 'macro' lens too, the 300mm...

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Beautiful bokeh. That 300/4.5 is a fine lens.

Comment left by: Gregg Iverson (giverson@webkorner.com) Nice photo. It really looks like a watercolor background with maybe an acrylic plant. Interesting shot.

Comment left by: Mike Butler (abutler@flash.net) This shot has given me a definition of "Bokeh" I can understand. The detail of the weed against the "back drop" of nothingness. Have you considered submitting this to Websters?

Comment left by: Lex (lexjenkins@hotmail.com) Absolutely gorgeous! Masterfully executed! Even if it's pure luck (and judging from your comments, it wasn't), well done! I concur with Mike Butler - you should shop this around for possibilities as a stock photo.

Umm...what's a "Circipoli?"

Comment left by: Giles (no e-mail specified) I like this image very much. The background 'makes' it for me. I had noticed the 300/4.5 has very pleasing bokeh but have not managed to exploit that trait as well as you have done. Well done.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) circpoli = circular polarizing filter

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) Lovely colours Scott. I wish I could see colours in the background like you have.
