Composition in brass and steel, no. 5

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Olaf Greve
Title: Composition in brass and steel, no. 5
Gear used: Olympus E-500 + Zuiko 14-45mm F3.5-5.6 lens @ 14mm
Aperture used: f8
Shutter speed used: 1/125th
Exposure compensation: -1 or -2 full stops
Media used: Sandisk Ultra II card, set at ISO 100
Technical information: Not much special. I just looked around for some rounds that were lined up to my likings, and then composed the shot and bracketed somewhat around the -1 and -2 stops settings to create a slightly low-key feeling (which I thought went well with the subject), and to keep the direct flash reflections within bounds (I had to do something like this, as the flash is just the built in flash, and I had no diffuser of any kind).
Subject information: "Now here's something you don't see every day..."
Or well, actually I do, but not many people can say the same. Initially I had wanted to submit a picture of the placenta after our daughter's birth. I had wanted to call it "motherly ties", and as a picture, it was a pretty good still life, however, it wouldn't be for the faint of heart and after a long think I deemed it somewhat too private to publish it too.
So, I finally took a picture of a subject I had already envisioned months before this theme: some nicely lined up ammo. There was a major complication though: my own collection is still boxed up from the move, and is waiting for me to make some shelves for it, and I didn't feel much like unpacking the boxes just for the picture, and hence decided to take a picture of some rounds at one of the ammunition fairs (don't worry guys: all this stuff is properly inerted), and out of the several pictures I took, I deemed this one of some medium calibre rounds (most of them have a calibre between 25mm and 40mm) to best fit the composition I had envisioned.

Comment left by: Bob (no e-mail specified) This would have fit the Walt Tribute TOPE quite well :)
