Emotive Desk Lamps

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's Name: Ian Nichols
Title: Emotive Desk Lamps
Equipment used: E-330, 14-54 f/2.8-3.5 at 17mm, a couple of flashguns & diffuse white reflectors.
Exposure Information: 1/200s f/7.1, ISO 100
Processing: Raw file developed in Olympus Master, further processing in Photodesk to de-saturate to monochrome (colour's a distraction in this) and darken the backdrop so you can't see the creases unless you really look.
Subject Information: When we were discussing this on the list, someone defined a still-life as "an artistic arrangement and depiction of that which was once alive - i.e. it has been `stilled'". I didn't entirely agree with that, so I thought I'd have a go at subverting it a bit..... a picture of something(s) that never were alive, but have been arranged to mimic a scene from an imaginary life. In this case, some desk lamps. What's the story? an injured child & concerned parents? A sleeping child & doting parents? some interpretation I haven't thought of? It's just a bit of fun, of course.

Comment left by: Bob (no e-mail specified) Pixar has been looking for those guys.. Good lighting!

Comment left by: Jay (no e-mail specified) It was a dark night when Mr and Mrs Lampster found the fallen victim. A simple but elegant shot.

Comment left by: Graeme Pow (no e-mail specified) I like this shot a lot - it's fascinatingly quirky. The lighting is wonderful and the deepness of the black was what I was aiming for (but missed the target entirely) when I shot my still life.
