Fawn lily

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Lazzari
Title: Fawn lily
Gear used: E510, 14~42mm @42mm, ISO100 -1.3ev, spot meter
Diaphragm: Aperture priority (f5.6)
Shutter speed: 1/125
Technical information: Natural light, braced on elbows. Used the limited dynamic range of the digital image to set the sunlit subject out from the shaded background. Minor "S" curve adjustment got rid of what little background detail was left after the under exposure. LCE, size reduction.
Subject information: Fawn lily (Erythronium oregonum) Much appreciated early spring bloomer. Grows in the open woodland. Once abundant but unfortunately declining due to invading species Trophihomus macmansionus which more aggressively competes for the same habitat. This one was just beginning to open along the trail in the local National Park and so well protected.
