On the beach at day's end

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Brian Swale
Title: On the beach at day's end
Gear used: OM-4Ti + Zuiko 35-105mm + tripod.
Diaphragm: f/8
Shutter speed Unknown
Film used: Fuji Reala Superia 100 asa
Technical information: I used delayed shutter release for maximum sharpness.
Subject information: The tidal currents had moved a great volume of sand from away from the shore at Gollan's Point, Sumner. Thus a new virtual lagoon was created between the shore and the sand-spit where people could take their dogs for a walk and game in the late-afternoon sun. The scene reminded me of the paintings of the British artist Lowry and his 'stick-people', and I made many exposures..

Comment left by: gord ross (no e-mail specified) there is always more 'story' in a WA shot. I like this tale, from the gentle ripples in rhe foreground contrasting to the waves in the back, from the reflections to the sky itself, from the people to the action of one dog- a lovely scene, with kudos for composure.

Comment left by: Andrew Fildes (afildes@people.net.au) Strangely compelling but I don't know why exactly - I appreciate the Lowry comment of the insignificant people overpowered by an oddly geometric and overpowering landscape. It's something about the light and brightness I think. Very nice.

Comment left by: Chris (no e-mail specified) Perhaps because there's a tension between 2 stretches of blank water. And the way the figures stand out so well makes the light excellent.

Comment left by: Photographer (no e-mail specified) As far as I can recall, the focal length for the shots I took was around 80 - 105mm, probably 105mm.
