Submitter's name: Graeme Pow
Title: Fire and Ice
Gear used: E-3 + Zuiko Digital 50mm f2.0 + tripod
Diaphragm: f2.8
Shutter speed: 2.5 seconds
Media used: SanDisk Extreme III 8GB CompactFlash Card
Technical information: I took this photo in my kitchen at night and illuminated the ice cubes using an LED torch that I hand-held off camera right. This was one of five photos that I had intended to combine in a high dynamic range composition but I couldn't get the look that I wanted so I just used this one. Shot at ISO 100 using auto white balance, manual focus, and an exposure compensation of +1.0 EV, I developed it in Olympus Studio and cropped, resized and sharpened it in Photoshop.
Subject information: This is a close-up of ice cubes (which are actually made of glass) on the double-ring burner on my gas hob.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Very nicely done!
I wonder what it would have looked like with real ice cubes (which I thought they were, until reading your description).

Comment left by: Brian Swale (*) Neat colours and nice composition. I like this.

Comment left by: Mike Gordon (no e-mail specified) Nicely executed. Very cool shot. Wonder if you cracked a few glass cubes.

Comment left by: The Photographer (*) I did worry that the glass might explode but thankfully not. The only mishap was not leaving the cubes to cool long enough before picking them up -- yeowch! Fingers prints do grow back, don't they?

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam@orange.nl) Although the subject is actually quite hot (as you burned your fingers;-) I think the image look cool! well done and great idea.
