St Giles' Cathedral at Night

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Graeme Pow
Title: St Giles' Cathedral at Night
Gear used: E-620 + Zuiko Digital 14-54mm f2.8-3.5 + tripod
Diaphragm: f7.1
Shutter speed: 3.2 seconds
Media used: SanDisk Extreme III 4GB CompactFlash Card
Technical information: Although I've only shot three other TOPE entries with this lens, this is by far my favourite optic; it's quite simply a great all-rounder. I normally have it partnered with my E-1 but despite the drizzle I thought I'd take my E-620 out for a change. Shot at ISO 200 and a rather peculiar f7.1 (although I swear I set f8) I developed this image in Lightroom, applying slight perspective correction before resizing and sharpening.
Subject information: A prominent feature of the Edinburgh skyline, St. Giles' Cathedral or the High Kirk of Edinburgh is a Church of Scotland place of worship decorating the midpoint of the Royal Mile with its distinctive traditional Scottish crown steeple. The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. Today it is sometimes regarded as the mother church of Presbyterianism.

Comment left by: Manuel Viet (no e-mail specified) Beautiful, winter mood at its best. How did you manage to convince the trio on the right to keep still for 3 seconds (the boy is especially rigid) ? ;-)

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) That is a lovely exposure and composition, Graeme. The variety of lighting makes it interesting as well.

Comment left by: Graeme Pow (no e-mail specified) Thanks for your comments, guys -- much appreciated!
