Ice Is Nice

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Jim Couch
Title: Ice Is Nice
Gear used: E-620 14-42 f/3.5-5.6 @ 20mm
Diaphragm: f7.1
Shutter speed: 1/250
Film used: Digital Capture
Technical information: Shot RAW, processed in DxO Optic Pro 6 and resized with FastStone photo resizer.
Subject information: A bit of license on the theme here, and a bit of serendipity. My favorite focal length with my OM bodies was the 40mm. With the OMs now gone my only 40mm lenses are both Rolleis. As the 4/3 system does not have a 40mm equivalent (20mm) I had been shooting this theme with the 25 f/2.8. As I was going through some shots I took while climbing this winter I noticed a number of the shots were at 20mm (not 19, not 21, but 20mm on the nose! I picked this one as my favorite of those. So maybe not exactly my favorite lens, but certainly my favorite focal length!
This photo of my climbing partner Leigh was taken on a small frozen waterfall near Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascade mountains of Washington state.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) That's a great composition, Jim.

Comment left by: Mike L (no e-mail specified) So did Leigh realize that you were taking pictures rather than paying attention to the belay?

Comment left by: Jim Couch (no e-mail specified) Thanks for the comments.

Since Leigh had not put any protection in at the moment that I took the photo the belay was rather academic. I have actually gotten quite good at belaying and photographing at the same time though!
