Dangling Drizzly Drops

Submitter's name: Olaf Greve
Title: Dangling Drizzly Drops
Gear used: Olympus E-500 + Zuiko 100/2 + OM->E adapter + Hama auto extension rings + FL-50R flash
Aperture used: f16 (or thereabouts)
Shutter speed used: 1/160th seconds
Media used: Olympus XD card, set at ISO 160
Subject information: Some tiny moss from which raindrops were dangling. The drops were formed by what is known as the 'Seattle drizzle', which was omnipresent while taking the pictures. I tried several angles, and in the end I liked the total end result (sharpness on the drops, and the nice smooth typical '100/2 bokeh' of the OOF parts) of this shot best, and deemed it to be a good example of the reasons why I like this lens so much.
Technical information: In light of the theme, I definitely wanted to use either the 100/2, the 35-80/2.8, the 24/2 or the 16/3.5. All four of them being my favourite lenses (having nothing of particular interest as an E lens), and all four of them being OM lenses. So I had to make up my mind as to whether to use the E body, or an OM one. I decided to first see what I could get using the E body, and if results weren't deemed satisfactorily enough, to perhaps opt for a special retro shoot using film/slide + the OM-4Ti. Doing so, the 100/2 was the only option that really makes sense on an E body, so I took some shots with that, amongst which this macro style shot. In a way it was a bit of a technical exercise, as I tried to get the maximum out of the close-up options available at hand. In the end, I used three Hama auto extension tubes, plus the (heavy!) 100/2 AND FL-50R. This made for a very heavy camera-flash set-up, and I didn't bring a tripod, and on top of that the shot was taken in low light drizzling conditions (not quite optimal for camera gear ;) ). Out of the 32 shots I took of this subject, ironically enough the very first one ended up being my favourite. There were some shots that had the raindrops nicely isolated against a black background, but in each of those shots something was slightly 'off' for my likings.
Digital trickery: Slightly sharpened (made almost no diffence), clone-brushed two tiny very bright (distracting) spots away, resized to 800 pixel size.

Comment left by: Brian Swale (no e-mail specified) The 100/2 does go well on digital. But this shot using extension rings takes its potential to quite a higher level. A great shot.
