Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Gilles Perez
Title: My Little Sister
Gear: OM-10 + Tripod
Diaphragm: f5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/60
Film Used: Kodak Gold 400
Location: I didn't go too far, my living room.
Subject Information: Well this is my 15 years old little sis, and she has been my portrait "model" for about 10 minutes while I took 6 portraits pictures. She didn't like any second of it but... one day she'll be a model and it'll all be because of me :)
More Information: This is my second portrait set ever, and I hope you will like it. One other thing I might find helpful (besides you reviewing this picture) is if you could contact me by email and let me send you some of my very best pictures (in my opinion), since I need professional (or at least more experienced then I...) thoughts about them. Thank you. (My email is gillesperez2000@hotmail.com).

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) I like this a lot - the off kilter composition, her facial expression, the even lighting, the bokeh - what's not to like?

The only thing I would have changed is that I would have cropped the two pictures from the top of the frame, and used photoshop to erase that speck in the center of the picture. But that's strictly a matter of personal preference. Good job!

Comment left by: Joel Wilcox (jowilcox@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu) Catches a genuine and delightful moment.

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.tds.net) Charming. The seemingly off balance composition suits the sponteneity of the subject. I disagree with the comment about the two out-of-focus elements at the top of the frame: they keep the composition light, not bottom-heavy. A grab shot? Carefully planned? Who cares? A good eye at work here.

Comment left by: Charles Packard (packardc@hiwaay.net) An honest, unassuming portrait. Well exposed and composed.
I do like it.

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) very nice indeed; no cropping needed. i would, however, have cloned out the slight diagonal of grey between the two frames, the dust spot smack in the center. also, is it just me or do i see posterization (? sudden change in color, like in low color depths) on her cheek? perhaps it's just the compression--a tad less would've been even better. fine minutae in an otherwise nice shot. i might not be much more experienced (certainly not in portraiture) but i'd be happy to look at your shots. just send 'em my way.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Acer, smack on about the posterization!
In fact, I asked the photographer to resubmit the initial scan of this picture (which had this effect much more pronounced), this scan is much better already, but it still has the effect a bit (this was the best version the photograher had though).

Regarding the picture itself, I think the framing and composition are excellent. Furthermore, knowing how new you are to photography and how great your work is already, I'm looking very much forward to seeing your future work!

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (jjakeway@iserv.net) Love the spontaneity and look of joy on her face !
Great candid (?) shot !

Comment left by: Mike Cormier (ronaldcormier@hotmail.com) I like the facial expression and creative framing (croping?) of the back of the head. Very aesthetic.

Comment left by: Gilles Perez (gillesperez2000@hotmail.com) Wow! Thank you all very much for your compliments! My god, if you only knew how much this means to me... I mean, as Olaf said, I am 17 years old and just started photography about 6 months ago, so having this much compliments in the begining of my "career" only makes me want to go further with photography. So thanks again all ya'll!
