He (?) doesn't look all that happy, careful: Chinchillas are known for giving one the middle finger ;)

Nice gallery! Wish I had your travel budget.

Are you sure this shot wasn't made with the fisheye? ;)

Happy? To me it's disturbing, and very affecting. First, I'm not sure what this animal is (without your explanation). Second, those missing eyes--just black holes. The sharp, sharp fur, but then, the out-of-focus whiskers lend immensely to the feeling of being *very* close. The picture looks B&W and then you see the nose. Leave out the explanatory comments, and this picture is quite a shocker, all things considered.

Whats to say? I really like it. Furry with attitude! I probably would blow it up to 11x14 hang it on my office door with a "Beware of chinchilla (actual size)" sign below it. Maybe then I could get some work done during working hours.

I was drawn to the picture right away - I just had to see what it was! I'm not totally convinced he was happy - I think you are right that he wasn't amused! Interesting portrait!

Gee! You sure it's not a wombat? I like the almost complete absence of colour. Spooky eyes!

That hint of pink on the nose makes this shot ! Would never have guessed this was a chinchilla, probably because I've never seen one before.....exactly how BIG are they? He looks very intimidating! Nice shot.

About 2 inches from the chinchilla, eh? Talk about an invasion of personal space. Thankful you had the gear between you and the animal. Normally I would be looking for catch lights in the eyes . . . but in this one the black holes where its eyes are works.

Where did you get a photo of my mother-in-law from.

Reminds me a bit of a pic I got of a guinea pig. Placed the camera on auto..just before it snapped the guinea pig came right up to the lens to get a closer look. I ended up keeping the pic as it turned out quite well, considering.
