Beauty in the flower show

Submitter's name: C.H.Ling
Title: Beauty in the flower show
Gear used: OM-4 + 180/2.8 + Motor drive 1
Diaphragm: f2.8
Shutter speed: 1/250
Film used: Fuji Superia 200
Technical information: With such portrait event, the subject distance is usually a bit far, I have to use a longer lens to get a half-length portrait and softer out-of-focus effect. For portrait I like to have eye contact with the model, it was a bit difficult in that case as there were over 40 photographers surrounding her.
Subject information: This photo was taken in a yearly photo portrait competition, which was held during the flower show. The models were from TVB (Television Boardcast Hong Kong). This model is one of the three Miss Hong Kong from last year.

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Seems like I remember a similarly impressive portrait by this same photographer with the 180/2.8 from a previous HK model shot.
A good shot under any circumstance, but to come away with this while wrestling 40 other photogs is an accomplishment.

Comment left by: Barry H (bhinderks@sprint.ca) C.H. - can spot your work anywhere! Well done - especially as Barry B says under the "conditions" for the shot.

Comment left by: Ric Keefer (Ric@Keefer.org) C H - I think I remember this picture. A great shot of a beautiful lady.

Thanks for submitting it for our viewing.

Well, what more is there to say? This is obviously a very professional picture (and model), and you've done very well to take this shot.

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.tds.net) I must admit that I'm not usually drawn to this kind of protrait. But the rendering of this model is impeccable. She is interested in you (impressive under the circumstances), and the composition adds to the beguiling nature of the picture. I especially like the blue of her sweater against the out-of-focus shades of blue elsewhere in the photo, especially the flowers in the foreground.

Comment left by: Eric Pederson (epederso@darkwing.uoregon.edu) Indeed, I must say that the model is as skilled as the photographer. Given the setting only a very skilled combination of model and photographer would have worked (short of blind luck, which this clearly is not a case of).

Comment left by: Mike Cormier (ronaldcormier@hotmail.com) I'm going to take this opportunity to sing praises to the 2.8 telephoto series of primes, especially the 180 and 350. Wow, greta equipment in the hands of a great photographer = fantastic results. Top drawer on every level, color, contrast, sharpness, framing. It's all there. This is my vote for technical perfection in Tope 5.

It is long way for me to go, to take a
photo like yours.
