Submitter's name: Dave Bulger
Title: Tanya
Gear used: OM-1n + Zuiko 90/2 + 2 softboxed Excaliber 6400s. Handheld.
Diaphragm: f11
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Fuji Provia 100F
Technical information: This was a full frame shot on Provia F with the Zuiko 90/2. 40" softbox on the right at about 10'/3.3 meters and 20" softbox on the left at about 3'/1 meter with 2 SP Systems 640ws monolights. Scanned with my trusty Olympus ES-10S. Only thing bugging me is the shadow on her face on the left of the photo from her hair. Otherwise, I like it.
Subject information: My 15 yr old daughter in an updated head shot. Waaay too much makeup for Daddy, but she wanted a "glamour" shot for her portfolio.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Great studio work!
Also, it's interesting to see two catchlights in the eyes. The shadow is indeed a little bit disruptive, but not too much.

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) The shadow doesn't bother me at all. Well lit and composed.

fwiw, I agree with papa - she's be lovelier without all the makeup, but I'm a dad, too. My opinion probably doesn't carry water with a 15 yr old girl.

Comment left by: tanya (tanya1414@hotmail.com) Oh my gosh!!! I am in complete aw over this picture!( condisdering that its me hehehe :-P) Okay sorry,..didnt mean to sound so big headed. I love my favorite photographer!!! :-)

Comment left by: Chip Stratton (cstrat@tulsa.com) Very strong portrait! I wonder if cutting down the saturation after scanning would have made it better or weakened it? Definitely some Hot Lips!

Comment left by: John A. Lind (jlind@netusa1.net) Lighting in this is superb. Excellent catch lights in the eyes with critical focus. Well done for a portrait this tight and very attention grabbing from the thumbnail. Only one wish . . . and this isn't a biggie . . . that her pupils were closed down slightly to show more of the iris. The shadow you mention doesn't bother me that much . . . adds a little mystery to it.

Who needs the typical school photog for year book photos when you can get something like *this* at home?

Comment left by: Barry H (bhinderks@sprint.ca) Get ready Daddy!!!! Just remember you are the one who set up and did the shot -- well done!

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jimcaldwell@iname.com) Great picture! The soft lighting is quite good - I was also bothered a bit by the shadow from her hair on her chin.

Nice job! But - you might find yourself fighting the boys off!!!

Comment left by: Johno (weesle911@yahoo.com) My God! Gorgeous!

Comment left by: Hans van Veluwen (hcvanveluwen@chello.nl) This portrait, beautiful as it is, looks a bit harsh to me because the make-up (especially the lipstick) is overdone and does not fit with the age (sorry, Tanya ;).
The scan looked much better to me after I converted it to greyscale and slightly decreased contrast and increased brightness.
Of course I would not dare to suggest that a grainier film than Provia 100F, and a soft filter on the 90/2 (known for its sharpness) might also have improved the image...

Comment left by: Filip De Decker (filipdedecker@skynet.be) Congratulations. This is a very nice picture ! I myself like to make this sort of pictures too. Have a look at http://users.skynet.be/zazoem/.
Best regards! Filip (Belgium, Western Europe).
