European Market Lad

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Keith Berry
Title: European Market Lad
Camera: OM-2n with 50mm f1.8 Zuiko
Exposure: 1/250 @ f8 approx. (Auto)
Film: This was the first b&w film I had used for years but is was free with Amateur Photographer magazine. It may have been Ilford Delta 400.
Details: I was walking through a local market last year organised for European stallholders (mostly French) when I saw a photographer setting up a publicity shot of this little lad festooned with flags and I paused to photograph him as I passed by.

The setting is rather odd: the guy sitting between garlic with several flags around his neck. It looks a bit like he was for sale too. :)

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Nice to see the venerable 50/1.8 represented here. Very evenly lit and well exposed. Was the other photog using studio lights, or did the lighting just work out?

Comment left by: The submitter (no e-mail specified) It was daylight with no extra lighting, an outdoor market of rows of stalls under long awnings.

Comment left by: Barry H (bhinderks@sprint.ca) I REALLY like this shot - sepecially the more I come back to it. You've captured the exhuberance of the youngster, exposure is spot on and the lighting has worked well - well done!

Comment left by: Mike Cormier (ronaldcormier@hotmail.com) Just to stir the pot, was this done with a SC 1.8, or a MC 1.8, late or early run? And does anyone think the difference would show up without the neg & an 8X loupe? :)
(Personally I have three 1.8's 1SC, 2MC, all from different production runs & I can never tell which I used from the pictures I get)

Comment left by: Keith Berry (k.berry@telinco.co.uk) It was probably the MC with plastic aperture ring. I originally found it too harsh compared to my old SC but now that I know what to expect from it I quite like it.
