Parade of Drool

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Michael Virsinger
Title: Parade of Drool
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 135/2.8
Diaphragm: f2.8
Shutter speed: 1/125
Film used: Kodak Plus-X pan 125
Technical information: It was a cold, overcast day, and the subjects were moving relatively fast (probably to keep warm).
Subject information: This was our local St. Patrick's Day Parade in Tarrytown, NY. The subject was one of many pipers in a fast moving marching band. Never having shot a parade before, it was tough hand holding the 135mm lens, focusing, and walking backwards. It was challenging considering all the dynamics of the shot, but lots of fun.

Indeed it's not easy to keep the focus well on the walking subjects in a parade. At f2.8 you did a wonderful job with just the right amount of DOF and bokeh!

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Very nice!

Comment left by: Angela (no e-mail specified) Excellent exposure.Great composition.

Comment left by: Chuck Norcutt (norcutt@attglobal.net) Yes, what Olaf and Barry said. Just right!

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.tds.net) I love B&W portraits. This one is prime. The piper is doggedly weathering the circumstances, as is proper with a good Celtic piper, the composition is as it should be, and the focussed pipes in the foreground, as opposed to the out-of-focus ones in the background add a dimensionality that contributes to the action. Under the circumstances you describe, you must be proud of this picture. I agree: I like this picture a lot.

Comment left by: Barry H (bhinderks@sprint.ca) Well done! Bokeh, lighting - you got it all.

Comment left by: Steve Goss (steveg3@flash.net) Excellent shot, especially under the conditions.

I almost hate to bring it up but "Drool"? When I saw the title I thought it might be a bunch of infants...
