Do I see prey?

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Chip Stratton
Title: Do I see prey?
Gear used: OM-1n + Zuiko 100/2.8 SC hand held available light
Diaphragm: f2.8
Shutter speed: 1/500
Film used: Kodak Portra 400 VC.
Technical information: Just an old single-coated Zuiko! I was feeling retro so I pulled out the old gear. It was a mostly cloudy day, under a large oak tree so light was very diffuse.
Subject information: My wife's recently departed cat. She absoluted hated having 'the big eye' pointed at her, but was momentarily distracted by something in the yard and forgot to look put upon when the shutter fired.

I like the over-the-shoulder framing and the excellent bokeh. A lovely shot, and I think her memory has been done justice with this picture, and I hope it will live on for a long time in the gallery...

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.net) Yes, a number of cat shots. This one has a primal element: dark against light. As I remarked to another photographer, I'm glad I'm larger than the cat, not the other way around. In the best portraits, cats provide am impondedrable contrast between "nice kitty" and predator. I think this portrait captures both aspects of your pet. I know you miss her. Wonderful rendering of in-focus and out-of-focus elements. Ideal composition.
