Submitter's Name Barry Hinderks
Title Mumsy
Gear Used OM-1, 135/3.5 (thanks Peter D), tripod
Diaphragm 4-5.6 IIRC
Shutter Speed 1/30th IIRC
Film Fuji Superia 100
Technical Model posed near window. Reflector behind and to the model's right.
Available light shot.
Subject Info My ever patient wife agreed to pose for another "lens test" - this time for the 135 Peter Dixon had sent to me. I liked the lighting and think I managed to catch a little of the liveliness. Our kids and friends love the shot but my wife only gives it a "fair" grade. I like it.

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.tds.net) Wonderful character in this protrait. Wonderful lighting. Static on the surface but animated by artful lighting and, most of all, by that wonderful face. (Nothing beats window lighting, does it?)

Comment left by: Charles Packard (packardc@hiwaay.net) The well balnced lighting really makes this portrait special. She is lovely.

Comment left by: Bruce Hamm (bhamm@magma.ca) Nice lighting, lovely shot. You''re a lucky man. My wife usually runs when she sees me take out a camera...

Comment left by: Chip Stratton (cstrat@tulsa.com) I think the reason your wife isn't as pleased with it is the fairly high contrast lighting. It certainly enhances the character of the shot and its interest to others, but the subject may not find it flattering.

Comment left by: Steve Goss (steveg3@flash.net) When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was one of those old- style grade school portraits they used to do back when I was young. But no. Much more character.

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) just available light? wow, amazing what can be done with just a window (was the window MC or SC? hehehehe)

Comment left by: John Wheeler (wheelej@one.net.au) What great lighting! An in-depth portrait. I had never met this lady. Now we're friends.

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (jjakeway@iserv.net) Fantastic lighting ! I love the catchlight in her eyes and the coloring is great, especially the skintones.

Comment left by: Photographer (no e-mail specified) Thanks all for the comments. Acer - the window was definitely SC - wouldn't want to mix SC lenses and MC windows:-)! Chip - my wife hates all her photos - getting a "fair" out of her for this one was a bonus - thankfully she still helps with the lens testing!

Comment left by: John O'Regan (joreg@waitrose.com) What a peaceful picture. Technically excellent. Love it!
