Title: untitled
Equipment used: OM-4Ti with silvernose 50mm/1.4
Exposure: f1.4 at 1/8 second
Film: Kodak Max ISO 800
Comments: Hand-held shot of my daughter at our kitchen table using a single candle for a light source. The print was pleasingly soft but the scanned image leaves something to be desired. I had this scanned at a photolab, but the results are clearly inferior to other scans on this page. Scanning advice is welcome.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) The scan is indeed not of the best quality, but for the rest I like the picture: nice framing, smooth even colour, the right amount of DOF, and a nice dreamy look in the eyes.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) Interesting choice of lighting! This reminds me a little of a shot I too years ago of a fellow student painting, It has the same warm tone and relaxed, dreamy feel about it, so I'm bound to like this.

Comment left by: Mike Butler (abutler@flash.net) I think the scan really detracts from the presence this picture has for me. I'm sure there are many list members that would be willing to rescan for you. I'll be the first to volunteer, but many others have both better equipment and skill than I.

Comment left by: Steve Goss (no e-mail specified) It looks like someone wrote on the print in the area of her cheek. But- the quality of the image still comes through. This would look real nice in a 8x10 print.

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (jjakeway@iserv.net) I agree with Olaf, you've captured a wonderful, warm and dreamy look here. I love the quiteness of this childs expression, not something I see alot of ( I have 10 very UNquite kids ;-)

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (no e-mail specified) should use my spell checker more often
meant to type 'quietness' and 'UNquiet' in the above

Comment left by: Mike Cormier (ronaldcormier@hotmail.com) As pertains to scanning, many will push you in the direction of a flatbed to scan prints. I however, would digress and suggest you shell out for a nice negative/positive scanner like a Nikon Coolscan or LS series, or a Cannon. Especially if you like digitizing images for more than TOPE. The added image quality is well worth the added investment IMHO. (Stick to OLY gear, tho *smile*)

Comment left by: Matt BenDaniel (matt@starmatt.com) Great picture. This is one she'll appreciate when she's older. Quite a beautiful girl.

Comment left by: John O'Regan (joreg@waitrose.com) What a tremendous photograph - scanned smudges aside. This child will thank you for this picture in years to come. Beautifully warm.
