Submitter's name: Chris Barker
Title: Adrian
Gear used: OM4 with 85/2
Diaphragm: f4
Film used: Fuji Velvia set to ISO64.
Digital technique: This was scanned using a Minolta Dimage Dual on my PowerMac and the colour amended (very slightly) in Lemkesoft's Graphic Converter.
Subject information: This is my 16 year-old son Adrian looking suitably bored at his father's insisting on taking his photo. He is a lovely chap and a talented guitarist. His hair, a natural colour in this shot, is now dyed black (!).

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) This is another case of an otherwise good picture having (IMO) too red colours, I guess one can gather I'm not a big Velvia fan...;)
Nonetheless a good shot otherwise...

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) I agree about the Velvia - better for wildlife than portraits. I wonder if the red could be toned down in photoshop without losing too much contrast?

Lovbe the composition.

Comment left by: John Pendley (jpendley@mail.tds.net) I like the composition and the use of limited DOF a lot. The expression is terrific. (And, after all, portraiture is about the subject.) I agree with others about Velvia. I like it to punch up soft lighting; for portraits, it's a bit too red. I'm not expert at portraits, but I'd try Kodachrome or Portra.

Comment left by: Eric Pederson (epederso@darkwing.uoregon.edu) He doesn't look bored to me. Playfully indulgent perhaps. Nice shot and I agree with the previous comments. I would also play down some of the background highlights. On my monitor anyway, the blurry bright points on the same vertical level as his nose are too intrusive. Good cropping!

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (jjakeway@iserv.net) What a handsome guy! Love the composition.....the way he's looking back at you and the expression on his face, makes him look a bit mischievious ;-)
Only thing is too much red in the skintones, a common complaint with Velvia, otherwise a fantastic portrait.
