Shelby's smile

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Tom Scales
Title: Shelby's smile
Gear used: OM-4T + 90/2 + Sunpak Ring Flash.
Diaphragm: Don't know
Shutter speed: Don't know
Film used: Kodak Supra 100
Technical information: Camera on auto with a fairly open aperture -- let the OM do its work.
Subject information: My daughters and I were out on one of our camera safaris at the local botanical gardens. They were each equipped with an OM-G with a macro lens, 50/2 for Shelby and 50/3.5 for Shannon. They're really turning into photographers. This shot is Shelby, my youngest, just turned 8 at the time, caught at a happy moment. She's going to be dangerous at 13!

I meant to comment on this picture when you 1st showed it but never got it down. Shelby is beautiful: her smile *and* her eyes. I really like the use of DOF. Wonder what would happen if you cropped some, putting her face "happy spot" in the upper left corner (rule of thirds.) Less foliage and more Shelby. "Dangerous at 13"? You'd better be darned glad that eight year old boys don't know about girls are yet. (Have to get one of those 90/2's).

Comment left by: Donald MacDonald (Donald.MacDonald@care4free.net) Mmm, she's lovely. I tend to agree that maybe a bit less of the frame, and Shelby in the 'sweet spot'. But this is my favourite 'person' shot. Eh, apart from my good wife, of course...
