Green Monster

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Paul Connet
Title: Green Monster
Gear used: OM 4 with 50mm/f1.4 MC + 36mm Ext. Tube
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: Camera on auto, (approx. 1/500)
Film used: Kodak Max 400
Technical information: This is not true macro - probably about 1:2, with the lens racked all the way out and the 36mm ext. tube. My "cheap" scanner is not working properly so it thinks everything is a slide. I have to scan negatives in a slide frame and then convert to a positive image by using the positive-to-negative tool in Adobe Photo Deluxe. Way too much bother and not good for high quality.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) The picture is fine as is, but the scan without a doubt in my mind doesn't do it justice though. It seems to me that the colours have shifted too (look at the blue and yellow leaves), or am I mistaken here?
Anyway, a nice picture which is certainly worthy of a better scan.

Comment left by: John A. Lind (jlind@netusa1.net) I agree with Olafo that the scan undoubtedly does not do it enough justice. I sympathize that it's acting up. :-(

Composition is excellent along with your timing to catch the the grasshopper (??) emerging from the flower. Critical focus very well done on the eye. As with others in the gallery, the low key background combinde with the colors of the subject (flower and critter) bring it even more to the foreground and enhance the feeling of depth. Very nice bokeh.
