Lotus flower

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: C.H.Ling
Title: Lotus flower
Gear used: OM-2Sp + Zuiko 300/4.5 + 25mm extension tube + tripod.
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: 1/125
Film used: Fuji RDP III
Technical information: Most lotus flower were quite far from us, sometimes 300mm was not enough. I used OM2sp instead of my most favorite OM4 because I think the shutter and aperture closing vibration of OM2sp is less.
Subject information: This is my first time to shot lotus, a friend drove a car and picked me up in the morning at 6:00 am. Hundreds of lotus flowers were there and the pond is inside a temple, people usually like to shot them at early morning to avoid strong sunlight.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) So this is what a Lotus flower looks like. Really exotic.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) amazing! first time i've seen a lotus NOT in profile w/ petals closed. the lighinting/exposure is super, and looks like the lotus is being illuminated from the center outwards... and you've caught a perched dragonfly (?) to boot :)

Comment left by: Dave Bulger (david_bulger@austintx.net) Beautiful shot! The lighting is superb -- the lotus just glows. One of my favorites.

Comment left by: robert winters (prairiewinters@home.com) for me this takes 1st in the flower category

Comment left by: Mike Williamson (mikew@shreve.net) Such an ethereal quality. Glad you got up early for this one!

Comment left by: Scott Gomez (scott@petroglyph.crestline.ca.us) Incredibly delicate colors, great composition. This is a prize winning sort of shot.

Comment left by: Joel Wilcox (jowilcox@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu) Worth the early trip to the temple. Really nice composition. Quite other-worldly.

Comment left by: Mike Cormier (ronaldcormier@hotmail.com) This is quite possibly one of the most technically perfect distance flower shots that I've ever seen, and the first lotus as well :)

Comment left by: Bruce Hamm (bhamm@magma.ca) Absolutely breathtaking! Really, really nice work.

Comment left by: Chaya (Chayas@ix.netcom.com) Awesome, Yes definitely first place in the flower category! Great detail, I lvoe the addition of the damselfly. I want to go out and find some lotus flowers to shoot! Thanks.

Comment left by: Matt BenDaniel (matt@starmatt.com) Beautiful! I daresay perfect.

Comment left by: Mike Luks (tiptop@erols.com) Absolutely a beautiful shot. Nicely composed, with an almost neon glow against a dark background. Wow!

Comment left by: Scott Nelson (snelson@hcfa.gov) It's so tempting to pluck that one petal off, innit? Comes with a damselfly bonus too! Provia F did a good job on this as always.

Comment left by: Scott Nelson (snelson@hcfa.gov) It's so tempting to pluck that one petal off, innit? Comes with a damselfly bonus too! RDP sis a good job on this...

Comment left by: Chuck Norcutt (norcutt@attglobal.net) Well, I too have to add my praise for this piece of perfection. The blossom is so perfect that it look almost unreal and the effect of being illuminated from its own center is just outstanding.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) Absolutely gorgeous!

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (mickeytr@md.prestige.net) Most impressive composition of an easily mishandled subject. Placing the flower off center forces you to notice the dragonfly and realize how fleeting this moment was. The DOF is perfect. The texture of the petals is well preserved while allowing the influence of the orange glow of the center to delicately brush them. The lone petal at center left standing looks like the outstretched arm of a waking spirit. All so peaceful as if time has stopped. The exposure is right on. Masterful imaging!

Comment left by: Jodi Jakeway (jjakeway@iserv.net) What else can I add? Absolutely stunning. Well done!

Comment left by: wayne (shumaker___ma.ultranet.com) The lighting is exquisite, very nice

Comment left by: Erwin Voogt (photovoogt@hotmail.com) Normally I am not a big fan of flower pictures, but this one superb!

Comment left by: Christopher L. Tabby (tabbycl@totalise.co.uk) This is a fabulous shot. The depth of field is prefect. The image is so claer that it looks like the flower was made of glass.

Comment left by: Dick Allen (dickallen@buckeye-express.com) Sir:
This perhaps, is the most beautiful shot of a flower I have ever seen. Applause!

Comment left by: C.H.Ling (chling@glink.net.hk) Thanks to all for the comments! The beautiful subjects really make the shot. Actually this is the first time I shot this kind of lotus flower.

Comment left by: Philippe Dambournet (zuikomane@earthlink.net) A picture worthy of the temple! One gets meditative, it draws you in so serenely.
