Maples

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Lazzari
Title: Maples
Gear used: OM2n, 85/2, 14mm auto extension tube
Diaphragm: Maximum aperture or close to it.
Shutter speed: Faster than 1/125
Film used: Kodakcolor Gold 200 ASA.
Technical information: The 14mm tube worked well with the 85/2 to get the right working distance. This combo produces great bokeh. Large aperture + fast shutter speeds allowed this to be hand held despite the breeze. I picked a spot so that the lens was shaded by foliage.
Subject information: Western maples already full foliage toward the end of the bloom. Back lit by the late afternoon low angle sun. Some shots that didn't make the cut can be seen here.
Scanning comments/questions: You might notice that the exposure isn't quite right but I'm not good enough with this scanner yet. The actual print is much better and shows more detail and less washed out flowers on the left. Any tips would be much appreciated. I'm using the HP PhotoSmart scanner and the Ulead software that came with my Microtek flatbed. I'm having trouble scanning at high resolution and then converting to the proper size. So this photo is scanned using the print @ 400x600 which loses some/much detail.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Nice colours, they remind me of some pastel-coloured autumn shots I've taken some 3 years ago.
