Hulahoopers

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Eric Pederson
Title: Hulahoopers
Gear used: OM-G + Kiron 28-70/3.5 + HP flatbed scanner with transparency adaptor
Exposure: Auto shutter (ca. 1/125) at about f8
Film used: Kodak TMY at EI 320, Xtol 1:1 development; slight cropping in the scan.
Technical information: Handheld. Not my favorite lens (and I didn't have a yellow filter in that size), but I dropped a camera at a fair the previous weekend and was nervous, so I carried an aftermarket zoom.
Subject information: The man on the right bending over slightly is a hula hoop street performer. Between acts he let everyone play with his toys. I don't do too many "human society" type shots, but there was this big downtown celebration, so I brought a camera along. There was considerable controversy about whether or not to cancel the celebration as it was just a few days after the attack on the WTC and Pentagon. It went ahead with a memorial tribute to start. By this last day, everyone present seemed eager to relax.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Judging from the perspective, you probably shot this picture around the 28mm end of the lens, this gives a nice slightly wide view, and just the right amount of impact on the spectators to be drawn right into the event itself

Comment left by: Bruce Hamm (bhamm@magma.ca) This is a really nice and fun shot. It does a wonderful job of demonstrating how life went on after the tragedy of Sept.11
