Comments: I took a lot of pictures after following a trail of billowing smoke to a house fire. Luckily (for me) I was just driving around looking for good architecture to shoot so I had all my equipment with me. The first pictures I took were with a 35-70 3.5-4.5 but, I realized that I was too far away and 70mm was just too short to get as close as I wanted to the action, so I put on a 135mm I had just gotten off E-bay and never used. The 135 turned out to be a wonderful choice as it was just long enough to get a lot of the people at decent size and distance without being a nuisance to frame.

Comment left by: Jamie Costello (jamie-nancy@juno.com) You can just about smell the smoke. There are two other ways I might have gone. One would have been to wait until you get get more of the faces of the other firemen in frame; the other might have been to tighten up on the central figure with the busted window in view. Moving that close might've gotten you a night in lockup, though. Nice photo.

Comment left by: Gregg (no e-mail specified) Ahh, the memories! I used to take my OM 1 into houses after we knocked the fire down. It's a tough camera. You captured the emotions well. They are in the wait stage (as in hurry up and wait) as the smoke is removed from the building.

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) This picture even has more signifigance since the Sept. 11 disaster made heros of firemen everywhere!
