Kite Surfing

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Erwin Voogt
Title: Kite Surfing
Gear used: OM40 + Zuiko Reflex 500 mm F8
Aperture: f/8 (guess why)
Shutter speed: Auto (about 1/250-1/500)
Film used: Fujichrome Sensia 100
Technical information: The Zuiko Reflex is suprisingly good to use handheld.
Drawbacks: dark viewfinder (use a series 2 FS if possible) and the fall off at the corners.
Subject information: With water everywhere, water sports are very popular in The Netherlands. Kite Surfing is the latest hype, pushing the windsurfers back to the shore. This picture is taken during a hike around the IJsselmeer, the central lake in The Netherlands. Some more pictures of The Netherlands can be found here.

Comment left by: Dan Mitchell (danielmitchell@smarttech.com) It looks almost as if they're standing on the water, though presumably it's just shallow there? (I've tried kitesurfing, it's _difficult_ -- the perspective there is neat, you can't get any sort of idea how big the kite really is).

It's nice that the bokeh's not all weird and doughnutty, too.

Comment left by: Charles Packard (packardc@hiwaay.net) I like the perspective, compostion and exposure of this photograph. Well done! You might think that a cat lens would be darker in the center instead of the corners.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) Lovely use of silhouettes against a sparkling sea.

Comment left by: Andrew Fildes (afildes@netlink.com.au) That's a very nice effect for a mirror lens. Odd and fascinating effect - liked this a lot.

Comment left by: Doug McLauchlan (dmclauchlan@telus.net) I like the way the sky blends into the water horizon. Also the blue tone is very appealing. Nice photo!!

Comment left by: Jose (jose@esquare.com.au) Although vignetting is visible on the corners, it can be a nice effect sometimes, adding to the dreamy water reflections. Nice shot.
