Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Without the description this would be tough to pass the "human society" theme criteria, but you did well in your description to make it fit the theme ;)

Nice serene shot.

Comment left by: Eric Pederson (epederso@darkwing.uoregon.edu) I guess you don't need a tripod anymore! Kodachrome 25 with candles!!!! Since the candles are obviously offering candles, I do see this as in theme just from the image. Very contemplative mood. Could you crop out the hot spot by the flare on the left edge though? It takes my eye away from the lovely soft flames.

Comment left by: Tris Schuler (tristanjohn@mindspring.com) I wouldn't crop it but rather use a clone tool and simply smother it away with black. It does distract somewhat. The shot in general is pleasing enough; however, it does not seem to fall within the spirit of this month's theme as I understand it. Which is not to say the picture is not worthy in its own right, but tell me: how difficult is it to find and photograph a scene depicting humans interacting . . . without an explanation to otherwise justify the entry, however maringally? That I don't get. Sorry.

Comment left by: Donald MacDonald (Donald.MacDonald@care4free.net) On the technical side, yes I could have framed it better. If I could take it again I would take a step to the left and turn slightly to the right.
We had 15 minutes or so in the Basilika, and I got to this last. The others were already standing by the exit. So I got one shot. Ah, well. I didn't like any of my attempted crops, and I didn't want to airbrush.
As to the subject matter? Well, you either get it or you don't. I looked at a few for this theme, only one of which had people in it. Others obviously worked to the same general idea, not including people. Imposing a 'people essential' clause would be a narrow interpretation of the theme.
And 'how difficult can it be'? - maybe not difficult enough. Anyway, don't feel sorry - I didn't 'get' the differential calculus.
