Another stunning entry from one of the list's grandmasters of macro. Very nice control of the reflections, I think with a T28 this shot would have looked terrible, but with a ring flash (diffused in any way?) the results are very nice.

I particularly like the golden colour, and the way the texture has been shown in this picture, very subtle lighting.

Comment left by: Walt Wayman (no e-mail specified) I like the lighting, the color, and the composition. What does that leave? Leaves me looking for a ring flash. Well done!

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) ...and so the question remains: how do those gears manage to turn anyway? the way i see it, they're interlocked. the lighting is fantastic, there's this surreal feeling about it: depending on what portion of the picture you look at, the gear appear to be hovering about the base metal, or they appear to be engraved into the basemetal.

Comment left by: John A. Lind (no e-mail specified) Glad to see other Kodachrome users around!

This is another one with a thumbnail that got my attention, and it works both at a distance and up close. Reminds me of something that would be used for a book or recording cover. Good use of absolute lack of depth or scaling for this subject material to keep it more abstract.

If you haven't done so, try turning the image vertical. I suggest 90 degrees counter-clockwise first. In this orientation is has a static feeling. When I envisioned it in a vertical orientation it had a more kinetic feeling. Not suggesting either orientation is "right" or "wrong." That depends on what you want for the photograph. Merely pointing out the difference in visual effect orientation has on me.

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam@zeelandnet.nl) The picture look like a da Vinci Drawing. If I would have joined the Xmas Xchange This is one I would like to get.

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) I've played around shooting the gears in an old clock I have - but I can see a ring flash is a must! Very nicely done - I really like this one!
