Submitter's name: B.B. Bean
Title: Gideon's Full Court Press Pays Off
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 50/1.2, Sunpack 433D, Stroboframe Press-T, Motor Drive 2, and Quantum TurboZ
Diaphragm: F5.6 or F8. I'm not sure.
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Kodak Tri-X
Technical information: Flash and camera on auto (+1/3), developed in Sprint developer, scanned on Microtek 35t.

My basketball technique is simple - 50mm lens, position myself to one side of the goal at the baseline, bracket mounted flash or T-45, and base the aperture on how predictable the action is. When they're shooting layups and battling for rebounds, I can prefocus, shoot wide open, and wait for the action to come to me. When they're shooting outside and have an aggressive defensive game, I opt for a tighter aperture, giving me a little more leeway with follow focus.

Subject information: I shoot sports for the local paper. As it turned out, the week this was shot, the picture got bumped for a bigger story, so here it is. FWIW, the Bulldogs won.

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) The intensity of the eye contact is caught perfectly. The b/w keeps your attention on the well lit subjects and draws you to the eyes. Great!
