Above & Beyond

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Benson Honig
Title: Above & Beyond
Gear used: OM-2 + 35-70 zoom + tripod
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: 1/500
Film used: Agfa HDC 100 ASA.
Technical information: I used the zoom to eliminate clutter in the area. The haze filter didn't cut through it all, resulting in an eerie effect, as though the mountains are part of a "set".
Subject information: In the old town of Antalya, Turkey, next to a small plaza.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Nice view of the harbor and rooftops. I'd be annoyed with the guy who has the weather station up top.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) This captures Turkish towns for me: the water container on the roof and the beautiful, majestic mountains seeming to be just behind. It is a beautiful country.

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Nice study in tiled roofs

Comment left by: John A. Lind (jlind@spitfire.net) An interesting view over the rooftops. A "haze" (aka UV) filter will cut down UV from distant horizon haze, but unfortunately it cannot fix visible haze from humidity, dust, smog, etc.

Curious about time of day and whether it was overcast, or at least enough that the foreground roofs are at least partially shaded by the clouds. I don't see much shadow. If the foreground is shaded by the clouds, it would also explain the blue sky being pale (increased exposure for foreground).

Comment left by: benson (benson@research.haifa.ac.il) It was about 10:00 a.m., a somewhat overcast day. Not a lot of heavy industry here - so the haze would probably be atmospheric. By the way, the "weather station" is on most rooftops in Turkey- also here in Israel. By law, new construction requires solar water heating. I imagine, soon, they will also require solar electric collectors. They become, in time, part of the landscape.
