Hog's Back at Dusk

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Cormier
Title: Hog's Back at Dusk
Gear used: OM-1 + 28/3.5 + Hoya Skylight 1B filter
Diaphragm: f16
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Fuji Superia 200 ASA
Technical information: I used the 28mm to get both the landscape and subject in the frame being that the shot was taken from a narrow foot-brige at the edge of a busy car bridge, as well as to add extra perspective to the composition. (I know... it's not a PURE landscape in the strictest sense, but I wanted my TOPE9 to be a little apart from the pack) A small aperture was chosen because of the extreme depth of field needed to make the shot work as both a landscape AND a sort of impromptu portrait.
Subject information: Tracy was positioned so that the setting sun illuminated the left side of her face and cast shadow on the right side. The fading light can cleary be seen on the horizon which almost blends into the ice-covered waterfalls and snowy banks. I felt the treeline in the distance provided just enough separation between the whites of the snow and the sky to make the shot work.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Lessee - pretty girl, running water, ice, topography, and good lighting. Throw in good use of DOF and perfect exposure, and what's not to like?

I do agree with Olaf, though. I'm really hoping teh name of this waterfall is the Hog's Back.

Comment left by: Bruce Hamm (bhamm@magma.ca) Ahhh,

Hog's Back Falls are one of my favorite subjects...and I still haven't captured it to my satisfaction. I think you've done a good job photographing them...and the inclusion of a portrait really adds a lot in my opinion. Well done.

Comment left by: Annonymous (no e-mail specified) Yes... the name of the waterfall is Hog's Back. Located in Hog's Back Park in Ottawa, Canada... which is all I'm going to say until annonymity is up ;)

As it is, by giving the location, I've narrowed myself down to one of about 4 or 5 list photographers...

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Good combination, ice & waterfalls
