Shrimp Fleet at Dock

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter Name: Charlie Geilfuss
Title: Shrimp Fleet at Dock
Gear Used: OM-4Ti with Tokina ATX 28-85
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter: unrecorded
Film Used: Fuji 100 Superia
Technical Info: Hand held shot with lens at 85mm. Wished I'd had a longer lens with me. Area shown was cropped from full frame.
Subject Info: Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant, SC around 8am on a foggy morning. This area of the creek has been home base for the local shrimp fleet for many years. Sadly they are losing dock space to trendy restaurants. I happened to grab my OM while taking my son to school and came across the bridge before the morning sun burned off the fog.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Nice cropping! Very well composed and balanced, good use of mist and muted colors.

I'm not sure a longer lens really would have improved things - the compression of perspective would make this a completely different picture.

Comment left by: Roger Wesson (roger@worldtraveller.f9.co.uk) Lovely shot! The rippled reflections and the mist beginning to engulf the more distant boats are very atmospheric. Looks like a painting.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) A nice composition with delicate colours. I can smell the sea and feel the morning humidity.

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Great "watercolour" effect

Comment left by: Scott Gomez (no e-mail specified) Having lived in Charleston, this brought back lots of memories. I think it captures the "flavor" of the shrimping docks in the area very well indeed. It's very sad to know the shrimp fleet is being pushed out by restaurants.

Comment left by: Mike Lazzari (no e-mail specified) The mist frames this picture very well. Use of a telephoto might have taken away the sense of depth.I like it the way it is.

Comment left by: Roger Skully (robinsnes@comcast.net) I love this shot...glad you didn't have a longer lens. The fog and composition are excellent.

Comment left by: bill geilfuss (geilfussb@aol.com) I was googling some geilfuss ancestory and came across this talented man who had something in common with me! My father is a camera buff as well out of Point Pleasant, NJ. I am in the ValleyForge/Phila Area. Nice to see that our bloodline has some awesome talent!
