Mirror Cleaners!

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Daryl Hurley
Title: Mirror Cleaners!
Gear used: OM-2n + 180/2.8 + Extremely Good Luck
Diaphragm: Not recorded, taken in "automatic" mode, (I did remember to give the exposure compensation dial a quick spin +1.5 when I heard them coming).
Shutter speed: not recorded
Film used: Kodak Tri-X.
Subject information: I was photographing an area the local beaver family has "cleared," leaving a nice pattern of pointed stumps just waiting for my tractor tires, when these geese flew across at just the right angle for me to squeeze off one shot. One quick "grab" shot, and I like it better than all the ones I planned and worked at! You can probably guess which recent list thread inspired the title. They're just lucky I was packing the 180/2.8 instead of the 12 gauge.

Really nice, and that must have a been a really tough shot to pull off!

Personally, I'm glad you only packed the 180/2.8; I rather see animals getting shot with lenses than with guns. :)

Comment left by: Gary Edwards (no e-mail specified) Well, they are mighty tasty; but it is really hard to train them to clean mirrors after you shoot them.

Good image. The hard contrast works pretty well, I think, especially with the featureless sky. I like the dynamic of the composition and that you left "room for them to fly into" in the frame.

Comment left by: Alan Wayman (no e-mail specified) Wow! What luck - did you take a lottery ticket that day as well? The high contrast of the birds against the white empty creates a great sense of movement and tension. Well, I know what I mean ...
Well done!
