Deep in the glass

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Iwert Bernakiewicz
Title: Deep in the glass
Gear used: OM-4 + zuiko 21mm f2 + uv filter + glass of port filter
Diaphragm: f11
Shutter speed: 1/125
Film used: Fuji Superia 200 ASA color negative
Technical information: Not recorded, but it was a nice summer day at the belgian coast, and I was looking deep in my glass of port wine. I remember trying to do superfocal focussing by using f11, but checking dept of field with in one hand a glass of port in front of the lens, and with the other hand pressing the DOF-preview button appeared to be rather difficult, especially since the glass was almost empty already!
Subject information: Part of the Belgian coast seen from our balcony through a window of port wine. We had a lovely day at the beach with our three kids. At the end of the day, just before dinner, I was looking deeply in my glass and discovered a whole universe inside! Tried to picture it, and alas, my tope 19 entry!

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Upon first glance, this looks a bit like the back of a 60s "space age" car, but upon reading the description it turns out to be something entirely different. Cool! :)

Comment left by: David (cochran@prtc.net) Beatiful! At first I could not understand the image. I thought it was molten glass or something. Great, very creative.

Comment left by: :Doro (callypso@online.de) very challenging idea! Like Olaf I first thought it was the backlight of some old timer car :)
hmm, belgian coast, three children, 2/21 - let me guess?

Comment left by: the photographer (no e-mail specified) Good deductive reasoning :Doro!

Comment left by: Pat Webb (no e-mail specified) Good thing it wasn't some 12 year old single malt, it might have been out of focus and un-usable!
What a stroke of brilliance.

Comment left by: Gord (gordross@shaw.ca) Very well done, there is never any wine left in the bottles at my house.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (ftog@threeshoes.co.uk) Very, very clever: I bet you had to do it again and again with different levels to bracket composition and lighting ... ;-)

Comment left by: Duncan Paterson (no e-mail specified) Most unusual. I'd never have guessed what it was.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) would that be the sun, the bright spots in the wine? (makes me dizzy trying to figure out the perspective)

Comment left by: the photographer (no e-mail specified) These bright spots are indeed reflections of the sun.
We have a west coast, so the sun was setting already.
(hence, the nice red colour!;).

Comment left by: Brian Swale (bj@caverock.net.nz) Excellent visualisation, and equally great capturing of the idea. A marvellous shot; I'm envious. Thinking outside the square.

Comment left by: Wim Verheyen (no e-mail specified) First thought that came up : abstract pornography !
Okay, I had two glasses of red wine myself ;-)
Definitely one of my favourites, Iwert.
