Fount of knowledge

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Siddiq (AKA Acer Victoria)
Title: Fount of knowledge (yea yea, cheesy, but a play on "fiat lux" this being a university and all)
Gear Used: OM-1n (the one that fell off the telescope), hooded G.Zuiko 28mm f/3.5, tripod
Diaphragm: f/8
Shutter Speed: 10 seconds (B mode, depressed by hand)
Film: Fuji Provia F, graciously scanned by Joel Wilcox
Technical Information: The most usable of my numerous attempts. There were too many ideas and not enough time to implement them (then there's the part when I consistently underexposed...)
Digital edits: Unsharped, auto-curves, levels adjusted in PhotoShop
Subject Information: Commons at the University of Redlands. In the background one can see the Armacost library.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (olaf_greve@hotmail.com) A tad darkish, but I like the yellow-blue colour effects on the light-poles in the right hand side of the picture.

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) there is a tremendous difference in this picture (and all others) when viewed on a good calibrated monitor such as I have at home; much more shadow detail, crisper image, etc. I believe the blue or purple shadows were noted by some other users as characteristic of ProviaF.

Comment left by: Hans van Veluwen (hcvanveluwen@chello.nl) Nice lights, with all this yellow and blue. It contributes to a serenic dream atmosphere, like from a sweet fairy tale. I really would never have guessed an Anaconda lived in this pond! ;)

Comment left by: Paul Wallich (no e-mail specified) Ooh. I really like the glassy semisolid look of the fountain and the water.

Comment left by: Tom (TomATrottier@home.com) You definitely need one of those shift lenses - I'd like it if you lost the sky in favour of more patio.
Did you use a star filter for the starry hilites?
Nice going.

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) good idea; i'll reshoot at +2 or so and lower the tripod. the lower perspective never occurred to me. no filters used, the stars are from the lens' aperture, which has six blades.

Comment left by: Joel Wilcox (jowilcox@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu) Good image. I wish I could have gotten a little more detail for your over the upper right of the frame because the image is much finer than the scan indicates.

Comment left by: Damon Wood (deewhy_au@yahoo.co.uk) Thats a cool effect. It looks kin to those 3D games out today, colour portrayed by you and the film (damn its good) was interesting. Only thing is the the horizon slightly above the sign in the foreground, just above the Bunsaker University Center - I would of left it out. But its hard to see in the dark I spose, but good effort! Good scanning Joel.
